Attention: If you are looking to register and it is after Friday, January 17th at 12pm, pre-registration has closed. You can still attend the planting, but you will need to register on the day of the event. The location of the event is at 30.642805, -94.661652, it is located on FM 1276 between Dallardsville and SR 190. The event starts at 9am, snacks and lunch will be provided.


On January 20, 2025, from 9-12, in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, Big Thicket National Preserve staff and volunteers will be planting native plants to support the forest biodiversity and habitats of Big Sandy Creek.


Volunteers will have to be able to hike 3/4 miles out and back to the planting site. Volunteers will also have added hiking miles on uneven terrain to complete the planting.


Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and long-sleeved shirts, and to bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Park staff will supply all necessary tools for the events.


Informational packets will be sent out to all registered volunteers prior to the event that will give planting location and most updated logistical information.
