Volunteer Position: Austin NOW Racial Justice Event Organizer
Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid/Remote options available for planning)
Commitment: Flexible hours, typically 5-10 hours per week
About Austin NOW: Austin NOW (National Organization for Women) is committed to advocating for women's rights, racial justice, and intersectional activism. As a leader in the fight for gender equality and racial justice, we work toward dismantling systems of oppression that impact marginalized communities. Our Racial Justice Committee focuses on creating and promoting initiatives that ensure equal opportunities and treatment for women of color in all areas, including education, employment, and healthcare.
Position Overview: Austin NOW is seeking a passionate and dedicated Racial Justice Volunteer Event Organizer to join our team. This volunteer will play a key role in planning and executing events, rallies, workshops, and fundraisers that promote racial justice and equity for women of color. As an Event Organizer, you will collaborate with committee members, community partners, and local activists to bring awareness to critical issues and create opportunities for action.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and execute events, rallies, workshops, and fundraisers that align with Austin NOW’s racial justice goals.
- Coordinate logistics, including securing venues, permits, speakers, and volunteers for events.
- Work closely with the Racial Justice Committee to develop event themes, agendas, and materials that address relevant racial justice issues.
- Promote events through social media, email campaigns, and community outreach efforts.
- Recruit and manage volunteers to assist with event setup, registration, and coordination.
- Ensure events run smoothly, troubleshoot on-site issues, and maintain a positive and inclusive environment for all attendees.
- Track event outcomes and gather feedback to improve future events.
Qualifications:
- Passion for racial justice and women’s rights, with a focus on the intersection of race, gender, and equity.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Previous event planning or coordination experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable using social media and online tools for event promotion and outreach.
- Ability to engage with diverse community members and partners.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, volunteer-driven environment.
