Austin NOW (National Organization for Women) is dedicated to advancing gender justice, equality, and the rights of all marginalized communities, with a particular focus on women and gender minorities. As part of our mission, we advocate for the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals and work to eliminate discrimination in all its forms. Our LGBTQIA+ Rights Committee is committed to fighting for equality, acceptance, and safety for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Position Overview:

Austin NOW is seeking a Volunteer Social Media Coordinator to manage and enhance the organization’s social media presence, focusing on promoting LGBTQIA+ rights initiatives, events, campaigns, and advocacy efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful social justice work, collaborate with passionate advocates, and amplify the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation & Curation:
    • Develop and schedule original posts to promote Austin NOW’s LGBTQIA+ rights campaigns, events, and educational content across various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
    • Curate relevant content, including news, articles, and resources that support the LGBTQIA+ community and align with Austin NOW’s mission.
    • Design graphics (using tools like Canva or Adobe Spark) to create engaging posts.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Interact with followers by responding to comments and messages in a timely and respectful manner.
    • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment on social media by engaging with LGBTQIA+ individuals, allies, and other organizations.
    • Help grow Austin NOW’s social media following through targeted outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Campaign Management:
    • Support LGBTQIA+ rights campaigns by developing and executing social media strategies to raise awareness and drive action (e.g., advocacy, petitions, event participation).
    • Track the success of campaigns through analytics and adjust strategies to maximize impact.
  • Collaborative Work:
    • Work closely with the LGBTQIA+ Rights Committee and other Austin NOW volunteers to align social media content with organizational goals.
    • Attend regular committee meetings (virtually or in-person) to stay updated on key initiatives and provide social media updates.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for LGBTQIA+ rights and social justice.
  • Proven experience managing social media accounts for organizations, campaigns, or personal projects.
  • Strong written communication skills with an ability to create engaging, on-brand content.
  • Experience with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social) is a plus, but not required.
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Suite, or other design tools) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with the Austin NOW mission and the LGBTQIA+ community is a plus.
