Position Overview:

Austin NOW is seeking a passionate and dedicated ERA Volunteer Policy Advocate to join our team and help advance the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) campaign. As a Policy Advocate, you will be responsible for tracking relevant legislation, analyzing bills, and coordinating advocacy efforts to push for gender equality in the United States Constitution. This is a critical role that supports Austin NOW’s mission to empower women and advocate for constitutional protections for gender equality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track Legislation: Stay informed on federal and state-level legislation impacting women’s rights, particularly bills related to the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
  • Coordinate Advocacy Efforts: Lead and organize advocacy initiatives, including letter-writing campaigns, petition drives, and communication with elected officials.
  • Provide Policy Analysis: Monitor legislative developments and provide regular updates and policy briefs to Austin NOW leadership and volunteers.
  • Engage with Partners: Collaborate with other organizations, coalitions, and allies in the ERA and women’s rights movements to align strategies and amplify efforts.
  • Build Awareness: Help plan events, webinars, and educational initiatives to inform the public and policymakers about the importance of the ERA.

Qualifications:

  • A strong passion for women’s rights, gender equality, and the advancement of the Equal Rights Amendment.
  • Basic understanding of U.S. legislative processes (previous experience in policy, advocacy, or law is a plus).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools (email, social media, etc.).
