Austin NOW - ERA Volunteer Social Media Coordinator

Position: Volunteer Social Media Coordinator
Location: Remote (with occasional in-person meetings)
Commitment: 5-10 hours per week
Reports to: Committee Lead, ERA Campaign
Duration: Ongoing 1 year (with the option to extend)

About Austin NOW:
The Austin chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) is dedicated to advancing gender equality, reproductive rights, economic justice, racial justice, and LGBTQIA+ rights. Our efforts include advocacy, community engagement, and education, and we are currently focusing on promoting the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), a historic push to enshrine gender equality in the U.S. Constitution.

Position Overview:
Austin NOW is seeking a passionate and creative Social Media Coordinator to help amplify the ERA campaign’s message through engaging and impactful online content. As a volunteer, you’ll play a key role in shaping our digital presence, promoting events, and educating the public about the importance of the ERA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Develop and manage social media posts, including graphics, videos, and articles that educate the public about the ERA and gender equality.
  • Event Promotion: Create and schedule posts to promote Austin NOW’s ERA-related events, campaigns, and rallies.
  • Community Engagement: Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely manner to foster positive engagement with followers.
  • Social Media Strategy: Help define and execute social media strategies to expand Austin NOW’s digital reach and engagement.
  • Analytics: Track and report on the performance of social media campaigns, using insights to refine strategies and improve outreach.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the ERA Campaign Committee Lead and other volunteers to align social media efforts with overall campaign goals.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing social media accounts, especially for nonprofits or advocacy groups.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to create compelling, engaging, and informative content.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and content scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar).
  • Passion for social justice, gender equality, and the mission of NOW.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate with a team of volunteers.
  • Graphic design experience is a plus but not required (basic tools like Canva or Adobe Spark will be used).
