About Austin NOW: The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest grassroots feminist organization in the United States. The Austin chapter focuses on advancing gender justice, racial equity, and the rights of all marginalized communities. We are seeking passionate volunteers to join our Reproductive Rights and Justice Committee to make a direct impact on policies affecting reproductive health in Texas.
Position Overview: The Reproductive Justice Policy Advocate will play a key role in tracking legislation, analyzing policy impacts, and coordinating advocacy efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about reproductive rights and eager to contribute to meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legislative Tracking: Monitor and analyze local, state, and federal legislation impacting reproductive rights in Texas.
- Policy Advocacy: Develop and implement advocacy strategies, including organizing letter-writing campaigns, petition drives, and public awareness initiatives.
- Community Outreach: Work with the Outreach Liaison to build relationships with partner organizations and stakeholders to strengthen advocacy efforts.
- Education and Communication: Draft educational materials, policy briefs, and social media content to inform the public and rally support for reproductive justice.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Reproductive Rights and Justice Committee Lead on legislative developments and campaign progress.
Qualifications:
- Passionate about reproductive rights and gender justice.
- Strong research and writing skills, with experience in policy analysis preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with Texas legislative processes is a plus.
Commitment:
- Time Requirement: 5-10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling.
- Duration: Minimum 6-month commitment.
- Meetings: Attend bi-weekly committee meetings (virtual) and participate in monthly all-hands meetings.
