Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most enjoyable things you’ll ever do; not to mention, one of the most fulfilling. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by igniting their potential and empowering them to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. You and your Little can share the kinds of activities you already like to do.

Play sports together, go on a hike, read books or even eat pizza with extra cheese. You can just talk or give some advice and inspiration. Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy them even more with your Little-and you’ll be making a life-changing impact.

Volunteering just 2 hours 2 times a month with a child can ignite a child's potential. Why not apply to be a Big today? There are kids out there ready to get started, are you? Our Mission states that we create and support one to one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise in youth. Our vision is that all youth achieve their full potential.

There are two main Programs.
School Based: In the School-Based Mentoring program, students in grades K-7th are matched with volunteers who have been recruited through corporate partnerships established by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County. These companies encourage their employees to serve as Bigs, and allow them the flexibility to meet with their Littles 2-4 times a month, at a local school partner. This option is also open to any individual volunteer that is interested in visiting our children in a more controlled environment.

Community-Based: Our Community-Based Mentoring program matches at-risk youth aged 7-13 with volunteer mentors who live in Bucks County. Many of the youth referred face socioeconomic risk factors that make them more likely to develop academic, behavioral, and emotional problems than other children. In addition to academic difficulties, many of these youth may struggle emotionally. Littles who participate are given quality one-on-one time, two to four times per month, with a caring adult who is willing to talk, listen, and engage the Little in a variety of activities in the community. The Big guides the Little in making good choices, so that he/she may become a productive, responsible and engaged young adult.
Having your company get involved in our School Based Programs located in Lower and Central Bucks is a Perfect Match! We support all of Bucks County!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong, enduring professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better.

Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County (BBBSBC) Community Program carefully pairs adult volunteer mentors with children who face adversity.  "Adversity" or "at risk" is defined differently for every child. Many of our Littles live in single-parent households. Many live in poverty, have a parent who is in the service or incarcerated, or live with a parent or sibling who is battling a health crisis. Every story is different, but the impact and the results we achieve are the same: children in our program are more likely to achieve success and avoid risky behavior.
