Now Seeking: Volunteers to join the MTR Advisory Board

About Mass Teacher Resources

Mass Teacher Resources (MTR), is a 4-year old nonprofit organization serving the greater Boston area.

MTR helps teachers in Greater Boston at economically disadvantaged schools access the resources needed to create welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environments for students. We serve elementary school teachers at Title 1 Schools across 70 communities in Greater Boston through the MTR Free Store, where teachers can shop for the classroom supplies they need completely free of charge. Our goal is to help relieve the financial burden many teachers take on to ensure that their students have the tools they need to learn. MTR is a fiscally sponsored organization of Third Sector New England, Inc. (TSNE). Find out more at www.massteacherresources.org .

MTR seeks local volunteers to support the operations and growth of this startup nonprofit as a member of the MTR Advisory Board. Advisory Board members serve as ambassadors for MTR in their communities, and actively contribute to projects and initiatives designed to help raise awareness and support for MTR across multiple constituencies.

Responsibilities:

MTR Advisory Board members can expect a volunteer experience that includes in-person and virtual activities as well as some independent and small group work.

  • Represent MTR at community events
  • Introduce MTR to their personal and professional networks

Qualifications:

Mission Statement

Mass Teacher Resources (MTR) helps teachers in Greater Boston at economically disadvantaged schools access the resources needed to create welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environments for students.

Description

MTR was founded in 2020 in response to the too common practice of teachers spending thousands of dollars of their own money to purchase school supplies for their classrooms.

We believe that teachers should not have to use their own money to purchase items for their students. MTR was formed to address a real need to alleviate the financial burden that many teachers take on to purchase school supplies. We are the only organization in the state that exists solely to offer these items at no cost to teachers.

The MTR Free Store at 800 West Cummings Park is a convenient and accessible space for local teachers to shop for free school supplies. Open afternoons and Saturday mornings, the Teacher Free Store is stocked with teacher "must-have" items we have secured through donations, school supply drives, corporate donors, and other reuse markets. Our approach has the added benefit of making sure that useable classroom supplies get to teachers - and stay out of local landfills.

The Teacher Free Store will open in September 2024. Teachers book appointments online and will have the opportunity to browse our shelves to select the items they need for their students.

MTR has identified full-time classroom teachers at Title 1 elementary schools in Greater Boston, located within Routes 495/95 as our primary service clients. This area encompasses 70 communities and 272 Title 1 elementary schools. We expect to serve more than 400 teachers this fall.
