Northside Food Pantry Advisors Seeking Volunteer Executive Committee Members

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Northside Food Pantry Advisors

  • Spots available: 4

About the Organization:

The Northside Food Pantry Advisors’ mission is to ensure sustainable health and food security for our neighbors by donating time, money, and goods. The Northside Food Pantry Advisors (NFPA) was formed in 2013 to support the Northside Food Pantry and serve as a "friend of" fundraising organization.

The efforts of the Northside Food Pantry Advisors have allowed for the Pantry’s significant expansion of fruit and vegetable distribution. The Northside Food Pantry is the only pantry in Southwestern Pennsylvania that offers fresh produce to its clients on an unlimited, thrice-weekly basis, with many of our neighbors returning several times a week for more fresh produce.

In addition to our direct support of the Northside Food Pantry, the Northside Food Pantry Advisors pay for and distribute produce at Northview Heights every Saturday morning. This has given some of our most vulnerable Northside neighbors living in one of the most severe food deserts in Pittsburgh access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Executive Committee Member Expectations:

  • Serve a three-year term with the option to serve a second three-year term.

  • Attend Executive Committee meetings, typically every other month. Currently, the EC meets on the first Wednesday of the month beginning in January at 6:30 PM.

  • Serve on one leadership team, which typically meets 4-6 times per year, often on the first Wednesday of the month beginning in February.

  • Be able to commit additional time outside of committee meetings to prepare and implement goals and objectives of NFPA (approximately 2-4 hours per month)

The ideal candidate would possess the following:

  • Be enthusiastic and committed to the Northside Food Pantry Advisors' mission

  • Be able to communicate the mission and purpose of the organization and engage with the community

  • Be creative and innovative while seeking the advancement of the organization and fulfillment of the mission

  • Previous non-profit experience (both volunteer, employment, and board service) is welcomed, but not necessary

  • Preference is given to those living within the communities served (zip codes: 15212, 15214, or 15233) however, candidates are welcome from any community

  • Willing to donate time and/or monetary contributions to Northside Food Pantry Advisors

To apply, please provide a resume and/or a brief write-up describing why you want to join the Executive Committee, previous related experience, skills you can offer to benefit the mission, and current zip code.
