The Role:

STW™ is in the process of redesigning and overhauling its website into an informative point of access for environmentally conscientious users, students, teachers, researchers, donors and more. We’re looking for UI/UX designers who can help translate ideas into wireframes, prototypes and mockups ready to pass off to development.

For this role, we require an individual who can address the needs and requirements of stakeholders in the Education Group in particular -- as this assignment will focus on building the multi page Education section of the website -- but also with stakeholders in other departments as needed.

We’re asking for an initial commitment of six (6) months with a minimum of 5 hours/week.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders within the Education Group to assess and establish needs of the group to develop existing and new designs for the Education.
  • Work directly with developers to ensure designs match the UX team vision.
  • Contribute to user experience best practices and act as an experienced evangelist to the organization.
  • Keep up-to-date with and display knowledge of market trends and best practices.
  • Work with different teams (IT, Marketing, Fundraising, Web Analysts) to define and prioritize features needed to create great user experiences.
  • Report to Associate Director or Project Leader for the UX team.
  • Attend UX team meetings (at least once per month).
  • Attend monthly Technology group meetings.
  • Participate and present in Education team meetings as appropriate.
  • Manage projects through Agile/kanban methods.
  • Complete the Timesheet at least on a bi-weekly minimum basis.

Apply Now if you have....

  • BA/BS or a student currently enrolled in a degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or related field; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with certification from a program in UX Design, UI Design, Interaction Design, digital design or related area.
  • Minimal 0.5 year of professional experience in UI/UX design, graphic design or IxD.
  • Proficiency in UI/UX design tools, (we use Figma), or demonstrated ability to learn tools quickly as needed.
  • Familiarity with Agile/kanban methodologies and project management tools (we use Jira/Confluence).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Must be extremely self-motivated, dedicated, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Be able to articulate your ideas to designers, and developers, both verbally or in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
  • Requires self-direction, tact, diplomacy and a clear, courteous and professional manner when dealing with the public.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department.
