ORGANIZATION: Project Hawai’i, Inc.

Volunteer Opportunity for the Giving Machines - Join Project Hawai’i, Inc. at Prince Kuhio Plaza!

We're excited to announce that Project Hawai’i, Inc. has been selected as one of the featured charities for the Giving Machines at Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo! This unique opportunity allows donors to give directly to support our mission, and we need passionate volunteers to represent us at the machines.

As the only volunteer-staffed nonprofit in this event, our presence is essential to stand out among larger, more widely known charities. By staffing the Giving Machines, we can inform visitors about the difference their donations make for homeless children in Hawai’i. Volunteers will play a vital role in sharing Project Hawai’i, Inc.’s story and guiding donations to our cause.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • 2 hour shifts limited to 2 people per shift
  • Welcome and greet visitors warmly.
  • Assist visitors with the donation process, if needed.
  • Keep lines organized and moving.
  • Restock donation cards as necessary.
  • Ensure the machine area stays clean (supplies will be provided).
  • Offer to take photos of donors to capture their giving moment.

On-Site Guidelines:

  • Lanyards and badges will be provided; please pass them on to the next shift.
  • Volunteers should be self-sufficient during their shift (no additional companions).
  • Engage with guests rather than with fellow volunteers.
  • Volunteers must be able to stand and walk for their shift, although chairs may be provided for senior volunteers needing short breaks.
  • Volunteers must be 18+ years old, and no children or additional items (food, chairs, etc.) are permitted.
  • QR codes will be available for guests to scan and learn more about each donation item.

Dress Code: To align with the professional standard, please wear clean, modest, and welcoming attire in Aloha style. Men should wear slacks or well-kept jeans (no shorts or tank tops), and women may wear dresses, skirts, or pants. Comfortable shoes or slippers are recommended (no flip-flops or casual T-shirts).

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference for our nonprofit and help direct essential support to our programs for homeless children. If you are enthusiastic about helping share our mission and making a memorable impression, please join us!

For those who are on Social Media and love to make reels or post, we would love you to share your volunteering experience while onsite and hashtag projecthawaiiinc and tag us on all platforms.

Once you respond here, I will send you the link to sign up for shifts.

Mission Statement

Mission Statement: "Empowering Hawai'i's homeless children to break the cycle of poverty through education, mentorship, and life-changing experiences." Vision Statement: "A future where every homeless child in Hawai'i has the opportunity to succeed, thrive, and reach their fullest potential."

Description

Project Hawai’i, Inc. is an award-winning, volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to serving over 1,600 homeless children annually across O'ahu, Maui, and the Big Island of Hawai'i. We aim to transform the lives of these children by providing stability through engaging programs such as educational summer camps, holiday events, school support, and life skills training. In addition, we offer monthly outreach services, ensuring children have access to nutritious meals, personal hygiene supplies, and emergency resources.

Since our founding in 2003, we are proud to have helped over 2,000 homeless children break free from the cycle of poverty, empowering them to build stronger, more secure futures for themselves and their families.

With more than 23,000 children in Hawai'i living in substandard and homeless conditions, our mission is to end the cycle of poverty for Hawai'i’s keiki.
