Position Summary:
The Rare Breed Front Desk Volunteer serves as the first point of contact for community members, donors, and service partners. This role involves answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and accepting in-kind donations. Volunteers in this position help maintain a warm, respectful, and professional environment that reflects Rare Breed’s commitment to supporting youth in crisis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls using appropriate phone etiquette

  • Greet visitors and donors in a friendly, professional manner

  • Receive and log in-kind donations, ensuring items are routed to the correct area

  • Provide general information about Rare Breed programs and services

  • Maintain front desk area cleanliness and organization

  • Notify staff of walk-ins or individuals seeking services

  • Uphold confidentiality and treat all youth and visitors with compassion and respect

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 25 years old

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain a calm and welcoming demeanor in a busy environment

  • Comfortable using a phone and basic office equipment

  • Dependable and punctual

Time Commitment:

  • Shifts available during program hours; minimum 2-hour commitment per shift preferred

Description

The Kitchen, Inc. brings stability and purpose to people who are homeless through housing and case management services. The Kitchen, Inc. has five programs aimed at ending homelessness:

  • Affordable housing developments provide 222 affordable housing units in the community
  • Emergency Shelter provides a safe place for folks to shelter before they can return to permanent housing
  • Community Housing helps families, individuals, youth, and seniors return to permanent housing and find long-term stability
  • Home At Last serves Veterans and their families who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless
  • Rare Breed Youth Services provides a variety of outreach and case management services to youth ages 13-24 years old.
