This opportunity is open to current high school girls in New York and New Jersey only. You must have the ability to commute to Newark on Saturdays for an in-person practice 12:45pm to 3:45pm from November to June. Experience on a dance team or formal training in any genre of dance is required.

SoulPhamm is a new, nonprofit organization that provides sports and arts activities for young people in New Jersey and New York City. You can learn more about us by visiting www.soulphamm.org.

Majorette Ambassadors help us build our team's visibility by learning the discipline of HBCU style majorette hip-hop dance. Ambassadors learn & assist us with -

Marketing: You will do dance videos that will be used for auditions and high visibility events; These videos help draw attention to the program which attracts sponsors, funders and new opportunities for the program and also is a "digital advocate" for the importance of arts programs.

Recruitment: Your participation as dancers helps us highten our visibility which attracts new dancers to the team. Even though we actively recruit across schools, we often hear that no one knows we exist and there are very few HS community based teams.

Training/Mentoring: As Ambassadors, you will be challenged to "peer-coach" and mentor younger or struggling dancers. You will also help strengthen the coaching and teaching ability of our volunteer coaches.

Fundraising: As Ambassadors, you will work with us to raise funds for the program; funds raised will cover uniforms for you as you continue to work with us.

Program Development: You will help establish the SoulDeevas as a premiere dance performance ensemble and position the team for ongoing high-level performance and competitive opportunities. You will help us create safe space for aspiring young athletes and artists who may want to pursue college scholarships or career paths in music and arts.

Advocacy & Community Service: You will help us craft social media messages that advocate for music and arts programs which are constantly in jeopardy of losing their funding. As a team, you will also develop and execute community service projects around issues that are important to the team.

What do I need for this? You will need a plain black T-Shirt, Long Plain Black Leggings and White Sneakers (if you have cheer sneakers, that is a strong plus). We will loan you accessories for performances. Upcoming Events:

  1. Winter Wonderland Holiday Parade (Atlantic City NJ)(free Transportation Provided)(12/7)
  2. Christmas Classic - a fundraiser to benefit homeless youth in Newark (12/21)
  3. NBA Game (You will be cheering at the sidelines during the game)
  4. NYC Dance Parade
  5. Ruey Classic Basketball Tournament

We will verify the community service hours of participants (you can earn up to 40 hours this season) and will also serve as a professional reference once the participant has completed six months of the program. The experience is great to include in college applications and on your student resumes.

About SoulPhamm Inc

Location:

7000 Hadley Road, Suite 1177, South Plainfield, NJ 07080, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by providing unique artistic and athletic experiences and performances, and to assist them in achieving the highest standards of professionalism through the development of discipline, skill, confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and character.

Description

Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts.

SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
