2025 Campground Host

Location Description:

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a 71,000-acre park featuring sand dunes, beech/maple and pine/oak forests, rivers, inland lakes, miles of Lake Michigan beach, two offshore islands, historic farming district, a lighthouse, two campgrounds and 105 miles of hiking trails.


Position Description:

1 position are available at D.H. Day Campground for Summer 2025. Campground hosts primary duties include:

  • Assist campground staff.
  • Interact with visitors, answering questions, and acting as a resource for park information.
  • Periodically patrol the campground & remove expired tags from site posts, confirm site occupancy and availability,
  • Perform campground rule compliance checks & make contact with campers or leave notices, watch for problems, and make contacts with visitors to impart information.
  • Daily cleaning of campsites and fire pits as sites become vacant.
  • Operate an E-Z-GO electric cart.
  • Assist with vehicle parking/trailer & RV backing (if needed and comfortable assisting).

Opportunity Time frame:

  • July 15 - October 16
  • We ask that hosts serve a minimum of two months in this opportunity.
  • Currently, there is one full season position open, but we will consider shorter term positions as well


Time Commitment:

  • Generally, a minimum of 32 hours per week is required for the volunteer occupants of one campsite.
  • Work period is typically 4 days on duty followed by 3 days off duty.


Benefits:

In exchange for volunteer services (minimum of 32 hours of work/week), campground hosts are provided with a campsite with water and electricity for use with their RV (or tent).

  • Campsites have water/electric hook-ups only, (no sewer), dump station is available.

Campground hosts have access to a restroom with a shower, and a washer/dryer at D.H. Day Campground.

Volunteer Uniforms provided.
