A Place Called Home's annual Halloween Festival is a favorte tradition for the entire APCH community. The evening event provides a fun and safe array of festive Halloween activities for APCH youth.
Why: Volunteers who support A Place Called Home's Halloween Festival will partner with APCH to provide free, safe and meaningful after-school engagement for more than 100 elementary, middle and high school youth. Halloween activities will incorporate the fun of Halloween and draw on APCH's core program focus areas including: Arts and Creative Expression, Wellness, Counseling Services, Educational Services, and Teen & Young Adult Services.
Who: A Place Called Home (or APCH) is a youth development organization offering a spectrum of services through afterschool and summer programs, case management, and mental health support. At APCH, we envision a world where your zip code does not determine your future; where all children have the opportunity to find happiness and success in life. For 30 years we have served our community -- inspiring, encouraging, and supporting the young people in South Los Angeles to achieve social, emotional, and economic success.
What to Expect: The APCH Hallowen Festival is a spooktacular role for Halloween lovers! Volunteers will support all aspects of festival facilitation and breakdown to help deliver Halloween joy and fun to APCH youth. We're specifically seeking support for:
facilitating games
supporting arts & crafts activities
supporting culinary activities
distributing treats and prizes
and more!
Please Note: Roles may include moving, bending, walking, light-medium lifting and extended periods of standing. Please let the APCH team know if there is anything we can do to make this project more comfortable for you.
What's Required:
Age Requirement: minimum 18 years of age
Form Requirement: volunteers must complete and adhere to A Place Called Home's VOLUNTEER AND INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR RELEASE OF LIABILITY form (APCH will send this form to volunteers upon confirming participation)

Mission Statement
At A Place Called Home, our mission is to inspire, encourage, and support the young people in South Los Angeles to achieve social, emotional, and economic success.
Description
A Place Called Home first swung open its doors in 1993 - a year after the LA Unrest, amidst a crime epidemic that rendered the streets of South Central unsafe for its children of any age. APCH’s mission was simple, but wrought with challenges: to provide gang-affected youth of South Los Angeles with a safe haven away from the life-threatening dangers and temptations of the streets.
Since then, a dynamic, multi-service youth and community center has evolved and grown on the corner of South Central Ave and 29th Street. For 30 years, A Place Called Home has been serving South Central youth ages eight to mid-twenties and their families through education and arts programs, mental health counseling, mentorship, job readiness, college scholarships, civic engagement, and more. At our core, we are still a place where young people who face tremendous challenges can experience the safety, joy, and opportunity that should be a part of every childhood.
