About Us: Opal’s Heart is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization based in Prince George’s County, MD. We are dedicated to serving unhoused individuals in the Metropolitan D.C. area by providing essential supplies and support through our Care Bags and Care Meals initiatives.

Mission: To provide dignity to the unhoused one Care Bag at a time.

Job Description: Opal’s Heart is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Administrative Assistant to support our organization’s day-to-day operations. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring smooth administrative processes, facilitating communication among team members, and supporting our outreach efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage incoming and outgoing communications, including emails, and inquiries.
  • Maintain and organize electronic and paper files, ensuring accurate record-keeping and documentation.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating meetings, conferences, and appointments.
  • Prepare and distribute correspondence, reports, and presentation materials as needed.
  • Assist with event planning and logistics, including assisting with volunteer coordination and logistics management.
  • Conduct research and gather information as directed for various projects and initiatives.
  • Provide general administrative support to board members and volunteers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an administrative assistant or in a similar role.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or volunteering is a plus.

Additional Information:

  • This is a remote volunteer position with flexible hours, approximately 5-10 hours per week.
  • Training on organizational processes and tools will be provided.
  • Ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of underserved communities.
