Description

This role supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department as a Disability Integration Team Member, a key position focused on disability inclusion, accessibility, and functional needs at the regional level. As a functional lead in disability integration, you will contribute to the organization's disaster readiness, response, and recovery efforts.

In this position, you'll help ensure that individuals with disabilities and those with access and functional needs are considered and supported throughout the disaster cycle-Prepare, Respond, and Recover. You may also assist the Regional Lead with a variety of essential tasks, including organizing rosters, meetings and tracking training progress, supporting onboarding and training procedures, conducting facility surveys to assess accessibility, managing relationships with key stakeholders, gathering resources to support disaster operations, and providing subject matter consultation and guidance to regional disaster leadership to enhance planning and response efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide functional support to the Regional Disability Integration Program Lead as needed.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication and collaboration with your supervisor and team members.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all disability integration activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to adhere to Red Cross COVID-19 policies for in-person volunteer activities.
  • Preferred experience with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Fair Housing Act (FHA), or other disability-related legal documents.
  • Preferred skills or experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development in knowledge, awareness, culture, and legal obligations related to people with disabilities (required).
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and punctuality (required).
  • Active listening skills (required).
  • Ability to implement standards and procedures and follow job tools, including reporting requirements (required).
  • Capacity to interact compassionately and clearly with community members as assigned (required).
  • Proficiency in involving appropriate stakeholders in problem-solving and conflict management (required).
  • Commitment to maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of clients (required).
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with governmental and non-governmental partners regarding assigned functions (required).
  • Skill in building strong customer relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions (required).
  • Willingness to embrace new opportunities and challenges with urgency, energy, and enthusiasm (required).
  • Recognition of the value that diverse perspectives and cultures bring to an organization (required).
  • Ability to drive during the day and at night (required).
  • Capability to sit or stand for extended periods (required).

  • Clear verbal communication skills, both on the phone and in person (required).

Development Opportunities

  • Proficiency in Disability Integration: Gain expertise in essential Disability Integration tasks. Once proficient, you will have the opportunity to advance into supervisory or management positions and respond to disasters beyond your region.

  • GAP Opportunities: Team members may qualify for GAP opportunities based on performance and proficiency. To be eligible for the "Service Associate" GAP, team members must hold a position in Disability Integration for at least six months and receive a satisfactory performance review from their supervisor.
