Help support our Democracy by volunteering Possible duties:
1. Voter Education and Awareness- Provide Election Details: Share essential information like early voting dates, polling locations, and any recent changes to voting procedures.
- Explain Ballot Initiatives or Candidates: Highlight key ballot initiatives or candidates, focusing on issues that align with Austin NOW’s mission and values, like reproductive rights, gender equality, and social justice.
- Encourage Vote-by-Mail: If vote-by-mail is an option, make sure voters know how to request, complete, and return their mail-in ballots.
- Remind Supporters to Vote: Use phone banking to reach out to registered supporters, reminding them to vote and encouraging them to participate in early voting.
- Provide Voting Plans: Help voters develop a voting plan, including when, where, and how they will vote. Research shows that making a plan increases voter turnout.
- Offer Support for Voting Obstacles: If voters express concerns about getting to the polls, such as transportation or language barriers, provide resources or suggest local organizations that can help.
- Encourage Poll Monitoring Sign-Ups: Use phone banking to recruit community members to attend poll monitor training sessions, offering details about the upcoming training sessions and incentives.
- Organize Carpooling or Transportation Services: For supporters who may struggle with transportation, offer to coordinate rides to polling locations or direct them to organizations that provide such services.
- Ask About Voting Experiences: Use calls to ask people about any issues they’ve encountered, such as long wait times, confusing ballot measures, or accessibility problems. This information can be invaluable for addressing last-minute voter suppression efforts.
- Report Problems: If any issues are reported during phone banking, prepare to escalate them to local election protection organizations or Austin NOW’s legal team for rapid response.
