Share your time and talents as a VOLUNTEER at the 2024TECHCORPShack! When you volunteer, you'll help high school students compete in teams as they build a mobile app to solve a community challenge. This year, 500 Ohio high school students will participate in the TECH CORPS hackathon. Students in Akron, Cleveland, Dayton, and Elyria will compete on Saturday, November 9th, and students in Columbus will compete on Saturday, November 16th. The TECHCORPShack is a 12-hour event in which high school students learn how to develop a mobile app and then build an app to tackle real-world needs or challenges. Volunteers can choose their role (mentor, logistics, judge) based on their availability.

Tech Mentor - Students will be placed on project teams of five (5); each project team willhave a tech mentor who will provide guidance and support to the teamduring the development of their project and presentation. The right personfor this position is energetic, supportive and likes working with teenagers! Mentors must commit to volunteering from 12:00pm - 9:00pm.

Logistics Volunteer - As a logistics volunteer, you will assist with event logistics such as table setup/break-down, registration, and other event support. Logistics volunteers may sign up for 1-6 shifts based on availability.

Judge - As a judge, you will view and assess each team's presentations and providefeedback using a predetermined rubric (based on the criteria of creativity ofproject, students' ability to explain the project, real-world application of theproject and overall presentation). The right person for this position has experience using mobile apps and/or technical expertise in programming or development, can provide constructive criticism, and has a desire to see high school students succeed! Judges must commit to volunteering from 6:30pm- 8:30pm.

Description

Through the development of engaging technology programs and the use of tech-savvy community volunteers, TECH CORPS is building a sustainable and replicable "pipeline of support" which stretches from elementary school through high school. Students entering this pipeline incrementally build critical technology and 21st century skills tied directly to their future educational and professional success.
