Through the Community Builder Program, the Plum River Native Prairie Community Outreach Member focuses on community engagement and enhancing the project's service capacity. They assist with developing and coordinating logistics for community events, build their volunteer capacity, and assist with leading logistics for volunteer events. They also assist with building and retaining relationships with local organizations, schools, businesses, and residents to foster a strong network of support for our conservation efforts. Additionally, they help create and disseminate educational materials, ensuring that our community is informed and actively participating in the restoration process. This includes comprehensive community outreach using both traditional and digital communication methods to effectively reach a diverse audience. Furthermore, they assist with building the capacity of their grant management and website development, ensuring that the Plum River Native Prairie project secures the necessary funding and maintains an up-to-date online presence to engage and inform the public on their conversation efforts.

Essential Duties Include:

Community Engagement:

  • Assist with logistics for community events and educational programs to include supporting the creation of curriculum and educational materials
  • Assist with building the capacity of volunteer activities, related to the Plum River Native Prairie Project including building a volunteer database, assisting with a volunteer acquisition and retention plan, and serving as the lead point of contact with volunteer days.
  • Assist with building and maintaining relationships with local organizations, schools, and residents to foster a strong support network.
  • Assist with the creation and dissemination of educational materials to inform and engage the community to include paper and digital media.
  • Assist with comprehensive community outreach using traditional and digital communication methods (social media, newsletters, local media), tabling events, and other community engagement.

Service Capacity Enhancement:

  • Assist with posting educational signs and conducting research to support project goals.
  • Assist with grant research and writing to secure funding for ongoing and future project needs.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining the project’s website
  • Assist with coordinating logistics and engagement with community partners and stakeholders including Minot Public Schools, Turtle Mountain Community Schools, Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College, Ward County Soil Conservation District, NSDU Extension Office, Audubon Great Plains, and the City of Minot.
