Wayfinders What we need:

Wayfinders serve as museum attendants and have a vital role in helping to create a warm Ozarks welcome for all our guests by answering general queries, and ensuring visitors have an interesting and enjoyable visit.

What you may do:

Wayfinders will be stationed at the entrance and throughout the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum to welcome, engage visitors, provide information on exhibits and artifacts, as well as offer helpful directions to different galleries and amenities. Volunteers should be knowledgeable about the displays and local activities or curious enough to learn!

  • Welcome guests as they enter the facility & thank them for coming
  • Direct guests to interesting artifacts, galleries, and exhibits or amenities in the Museum (e.g., restrooms, gift shop, restaurants, etc)
  • Engage guests with information about local events, attractions, and sites to see

This role helps Top of the Rock extend our reach and goal for people of all ages to celebrate and experience the beauty and natural history of the Ozarks.

You:

Volunteers are able to explore their passions and discover new interests while engaging with guests from around the world. We have a variety of positions available based on personal interests, goals, and many offer flexible scheduling. Top of the Rock volunteers also have many first-hand opportunities for unique experiences, retail and ticket benefits, and are celebrated during regular team member events.

Skills & Experience Needed:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have good communication skills, willing to share information with visitors without being asked
  • Are proactive with a positive nature and an interest in providing an excellent visitor experience
  • Have an interest in history, the Ozarks, and the broader geographical area, but no specific knowledge is expected
  • Able to work with and without supervision
  • Enjoy meeting new people and starting conversations
  • Ability to alternate standing and sitting for 2-4 hours and to move intermittently throughout the day
Availability/Time Commitment:
  • Weekly shifts preferred; Volunteers must maintain an active status consisting of 6 shifts per quarter (3 consecutive months)
  • Minimum commitment of 6 months
  • Volunteers self-schedule using the Better Impact app with daily opportunities to fit your busy lifestyle
  • Mandatory initial orientation offered once a month; days of the week vary by month
