Come join park staff for a special volunteer day as we pick up trash and other marine debris on Great Brewster Island! We will discuss the discuss the ecology, natural history, and cultural significance of landscapes in the park as we work to improve habitat by removing trash washed ashore. This event is in partnership with MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, Boston Harbor Now, and the Center for Coastal Studies with support from the NOAA Marine Debris Program and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Registration is required for these events.
- This is a special event, and capacity is limited. Please register if you plan to join us, but let us know if you need to cancel your registration as the event draws near.
- Terrain on Great Brewster is uneven with very little established trails.
- Travel for this event will be a large landing craft vessel with full exposure to the elements. Due to logistics of the day, significant time will be spent in transit to and from the island, with travel time starting at 8a and returning by 3:30p.

Directions: Departure will be from Hingham Shipyard (30 Shipyard Dr, Hingham, MA 02043). Parking is available.
Timing: Please arrive at 7:30am. The boat departs at 8am . We will return by 3:30pm.
What to wear: Long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, closed-toe shoes, and layers for the weather. Conditions can be unpredictable so please monitor the weather in the days leading up to the event and dress appropriately.
What to bring: Bring a lunch and a reusable water bottle. Sunscreen and a hat are always recommended. Tools, gloves, and PPE will be provided.
Event will run rain or shine, however, may be cancelled due to severe weather.
Location is subject to change. Information will be shared immediately about any changes.
If you are under 18 and interested in volunteering, please contact us directly (rachel_vincent@nps.gov) as we have special guidance and volunteer.gov does not allow minor applications. Due to the complexity of these events, we have stricter regulations about minors volunteering.
