Position Summary: The TNR Volunteer will be an essential part of our cat rescue group, focusing on humanely trapping, neutering, and returning feral cats to their original locations. This role is critical in helping to control the stray cat population, improve the health of community cats, and enhance the overall well-being of our feline friends. Volunteers will work closely with our team to ensure the success of our TNR efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trap Preparation: Set up and prepare humane traps in designated areas to safely capture feral cats.
  • Trapping: Conduct trapping sessions, often in collaboration with other volunteers, ensuring the safety and well-being of the cats during the process.
  • Transport: Safely transport trapped cats to and from veterinary clinics for spaying/neutering and vaccinations.
  • Post-Operative Care: Monitor and care for cats after surgery, providing necessary post-operative support before returning them to their original locations.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of trapped cats, including medical information and return locations, to help track the program’s effectiveness.
  • Community Education: Engage with community members about TNR efforts, promoting awareness and encouraging responsible cat care practices.

Requirements:

  • Commitment to Animal Welfare: A strong passion for animal welfare and a desire to help reduce the stray cat population.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry traps, as well as work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with other volunteers and community members.
  • Reliable Transportation: Access to a vehicle for transporting cats and traveling to designated trapping locations and veterinary clinics.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work irregular hours, including early mornings and evenings, to accommodate trapping schedules.
  • Training: Openness to participate in training sessions on humane trapping techniques and post-operative care.

Description

We're working to grow our spay/neuter program with emphasis on TNR. We empower community cat caretakers, working along side them to demonstrate effective TNR techniques. We provide ongoing support as needed which may include trap loans, spay/neuter financial support and hands-on assistance. We also work on high-volume cases where we also provide education on animal welfare, assist in getting cats fixed and may help find placement for cats. In cases of very high needs, we may provide temporary aid with medical care and/or pet food.
