Come serve elementary school students in Atlanta with Read Together ATL!
Our Mission:
- Read Together ATL seeks to bolster literacy and improve reading outcomes for at-risk students through a one-on-one tutoring learned word program.
- Our hope is to see achievement gaps narrow and proficiency rates rise in our city. Read Together ATL is just one piece of the puzzle in bringing this vision to life. Students need a holistic, literacy-rich environment, and we seek to be a part of helping create that for elementary students in Atlanta.
What does volunteering with us look like?
- We provide the required training before the school year, and we supply the materials needed to work with students.
- Our tutoring sessions take place on site during the school day.
- Volunteers will be placed with the same student throughout the school year. We seek to foster genuine relationships and trust with students, so we ask our volunteers to commit to one school year of tutoring.
Volunteering Specifics:
- We offer "high-impact tutoring" for students. Research shows that this effective type of tutoring includes:
- two 30-minute tutoring sessions a week
- a one-on-one tutoring model
- trained and consistent tutors
- high-quality tutoring material
- Our students will work with five learned words per session. Volunteers and students will go through activities each session in order to increase familiarity with each of these words.
Time Commitment:
- Volunteers will serve once a week at one of our school partnerships.
- Volunteers will serve for 1 hour during the school day per week.
- Volunteers will serve two students during this time, 30 minutes for each student.

Mission Statement
Read Together ATL seeks to bolster literacy and improve reading outcomes for at-risk students through a one-on-one tutoring learned word and comprehension program.
Description
Read Together ATL began in 2021, tutoring at-risk third grade students in learned word skills. Our aim when we began was to supplement needed skills that students may not have time to learn and review in a classroom setting. Students in our program work one-on-one with a volunteer in order to individualize literacy supports and foster relationship-building throughout the school year. We have since expanded our program from one school partnership to four school partnerships and have introduced reading comprehension skills to our program as well. We are partnered with schools on the west side of Atlanta and Powder Springs. We look forward to continuing to serve more students in the Metro Atlanta area!
