Join SOUL at an upcoming community tree planting day as we work to reforest New Orleans!
Sustaining Our Urban Landscape (SOUL) is a local non-profit founded in 2016 dedicated to reforesting New Orleans by planting native, water-loving trees. The trees we plant help to mitigate flood water, cool and clean the air, reduce energy bills, and much more. With the help of our incredible volunteers, SOUL has planted almost 10,000 trees throughout Orleans Parish to date.
We have 2-3 community planting days a month on Saturday mornings from 9:00am to about 1:00pm, with a pizza party afterwards. From October 2024 - March 2025 we aim to plant 1,700 trees in the Lower 9th Ward, Holy Cross, Gentilly Woods, the St. Bernard Area / Pilotland, and Hollygrove, with plans to expand into other areas of the city in future planting seasons.
In order to reach our goal, we rely on the support of our dedicated volunteers to help us plant. The trees we plant are 15 gallons, so the work can be physically strenuous and volunteers should be in good health. Volunteering with SOUL allows community members to meet like-minded people and directly improve their city in a meaningful way. Please consider joining us for one of our planting days this upcoming season!
