Join us for one of our Pause for Parents, Play for Kids respite events throughout October, and be part of an afternoon filled with fun, purpose, and impact.
When?
- Friday 10/18 from 4:45-9:15pm
- Saturday 10/19 from 8:15am-12:30pm OR 12:45-5pm
Why does it matter?
Did you know that parents of kids with special needs can spend an average of up to 25-40 extra hours a week caring for their child? These families often face isolation and burnout, and when they don't get the breaks they need, the consequences can be serious-leaving kids with extra needs at higher risk for stress, neglect, or worse. But together, we can change that!
How can YOU help?
When you volunteer with Pause, you provide these parents with a much-needed breather-giving them the chance to recharge while we create a safe and fun environment for their kids. Your few hours of time make an enormous difference, helping prevent caregiver burnout and ensuring families stay healthy and resilient. Plus, our data shows that kids and families leave our events feeling less isolated and more supported!
What will the day look like?
You’ll spend the morning or afternoon building connections with amazing kids (ages 0-24) who need a little extra support. We focus on resilience-building activities mixed with tons of fun! Why? Because these kids deserve to feel included, loved, and confident in who they are-and you can help make that happen!
How you can get involved:
- Small Group Leader or Helper: Lead or assist in fun, resilience-based activities for a group of kids (we’ve got all the supplies and instructions ready for you!).
- 1:1 Buddy: Be an extra set of hands and a friend to a kiddo with higher needs. You’ll have plenty of support from our experienced staff, so you’re never on your own!
- Room Host: If you enjoy crafts or STEAM focused activities, this is the role for you!
Why wait?
If you're ready to make an impact while having fun, enroll today on our website! Still unsure or have questions? No problem! Shoot me an email at emily.denlinger@pauseforparents.org-I'd love to chat and help you get started.

Mission Statement
Pause for Parents, Play for Kids, Inc. provides rest, support, connection and fun to families with differing needs to build resilience and increase hope. We support families who have children (ages 0-24) with developmental disabilities, mental/behavioral health challenges (including complex trauma), chronic medical conditions, children with IEPs/504s and those in foster or kinship care. By giving families space to share their story and use their voice, Pause serves as the bridge to stronger relationships, better outcomes and more inclusive communities.
Description
WHAT ARE OUR STRATEGIES?
Rest so caregivers can re-charge and move from surviving to thriving.
Support by assessing our families’ unique needs and connecting them to resources and each other.
Connection & Fun with in-person and virtual events that build family relationships and connections with other Pause families.
Train & Equip volunteers and community partners to understand the challenges of the families we serve and maximize their resources, talents and gifts to find the role that best fits them.
We provide these supports through the use of short term respite events. These events give caretakers a few hours to recharge while we have fun and pour into their kids. All events are pre-planned and intentionally designed to be trauma informed and resiliency based. As a volunteer, you simply get to show up and connect with our sweet kids who are excited to spend time with you! Join our growing team of 500 volunteers as we work to bring change to over a thousand lives in the greater Cincinnati area.
