Shelter Service Associate
Are you available to assist areas hit by flooding and storms? Over the next weeks, the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to deploy to areas affected by disasters. Join your neighbors in becoming a trained volunteer to support communities impacted by severe weather. There are current needs outside of PA, as well as a need for availability locally.
Shelter Support Teams sustain the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4 to 12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts, is required.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities vary depending on assignment. May include providing support to one or more of the following areas within the shelter: reception registration dormitory feeding information supply Provide excellent customer service to clients Complete the required virtual self-paced training (3.5 hours of training total)

Time Commitment
Regional responses: Shift work determined by the scale of the relief operation; a minimum requirement of 8-12 hours per day during the disaster relief operation for multiple, consecutive days.
Beyond Regional responses: 12-14 hour days for extended periods depending on distance. Time and length of commitment will vary by operation.
