Mountain Valor Foundation is a startup nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting wounded veterans by providing therapeutic and recreational retreats. Our mission is to create a sanctuary where veterans can engage in camping, fishing, and hunting activities, fostering a sense of community and healing. We are currently developing our infrastructure in both Colorado and Florida to support our growing community of veterans.

Job Summary

Mountain Valor Foundation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Development Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight for all development activities. This role is crucial in ensuring the foundation's financial stability and growth by developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan, cultivating relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations, and overseeing grant writing and reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in development and fundraising, strong leadership skills, and the ability to align fundraising strategies with the organization’s goals.

Disclosure: As MVF is in its growth phase, this position is currently an unpaid volunteer-based position with flexible time requirements. The incumbent who volunteers, is selected, and fills this role, dedicating their time, passion, and loyalty to helping us continue to grow will be offered a secured salaried employment position based upon successful fundraising efforts. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for all development activities.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that supports the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Set annual fundraising goals and create strategies to achieve them.

Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
  • Develop and implement strategies for donor engagement and retention.
  • Represent the organization at fundraising events, meetings, and networking opportunities.

Grant Writing and Reporting:

  • Oversee the grant writing process, including identifying funding opportunities, preparing proposals, and submitting applications.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and manage grant reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary information for grant applications and reports.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the executive team to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals.
  • Work closely with the Fundraising and Development Manager, Major Gifts Officer, Corporate Partnerships Manager, and other development staff to coordinate fundraising efforts.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the executive team and board of directors on fundraising progress and challenges.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in development and fundraising, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience with donor management software and fundraising platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.

  • Location:

The position can be based anywhere in the U.S. The Development Director will be expected to oversee fundraising, attend Virtual and In-Person Meetings, and represent MVF at specific functions and to certain high-profile individuals/corporations, all which may require travel.

  • Compensation:

Unpaid volunteer-based position with the potential to become a secured salaried employment position dependent on successful fundraising efforts.
