CASA for Kids of East Texas

Become an independent voice in court for an abused child by volunteering as a CASA. CASA's must be at least 21 years of age and able to pass a criminal background check. 24 hours of in class training will be provided. CASA's will conduct an independent investigation while becoming a positive figure in the life of an abused child or children. They will make recommendations to the family court judge based on the best interest of the child's needs and permanent placement. We represent children from Smith, Wood and Van Zandt Counties.

Mission Statement

The mission of CASA for Kids of East Texas is to make life-changing differences by advocating for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Our staff and trained community volunteers achieve this by identifying children's needs, recommending services, connecting with support systems, and advocating for safety and permanency.

Description

Imagine what it feels like to be the person who shows a child that heroes still walk the earth and that not all grown-ups are the same. You can be the one to restore a child’s faith in people and give them hope for the future. Think about a time in your life when you felt very alone, and someone came to stand beside you. Do you remember what a gift that was? You can give that same gift to an abused or neglected child as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

CASA for Kids of East Texas is a non-profit organization that mobilizes community volunteers to help break the cycle of child abuse. These volunteers advocate for children involved in the family court system in Smith, Van Zandt, and Wood counties. Child Protective Services (CPS) has removed these children from their homes and now reside in foster care. CASA volunteers have an opportunity to effect real change in the lives of these children by advocating for their best interests in court. For more information, call 903.597.7725.

Staff help throughout the application and training process and provide continual support and guidance to volunteer advocates.
