The Boston Book Festival celebrates the power of words to stimulate, agitate, unite, delight, and inspire by holding year-round events culminating in an annual, free Festival that promotes a culture of reading and ideas and enhances the vibrancy of our city. The Boston Book Festival serves the greater Boston community by offering diverse, fun and thought-provoking literary content for all ages, for FREE!

After signing up, you will coordinate with the Volunteer Team about your role assignment and how long you are available. The following roles are available at varying times throughout the day:

• Ushers are assigned to specific venues where author sessions are held. Ushers will assist in assuring that incoming and outgoing audience members move around the space in an orderly fashion and that everyone finds seating.
• Book Signing Assistants will work with the Bookstore staff in forming orderly lines for book purchasing and book signing by the authors.
• Wayfinders will float around the various Festival locations to be a resource for attendees. We do our best to make sure Wayfinders are informed about the Festival or know who to ask if there are questions they’re unsure of.

Ushers and Book Signing Assistants may be asked to stand for up to 45 minutes at a time, but may have time to sit down during the sessions. Wayfinders may be required to stand for the majority of their shift, but it can be arranged for them to be able to sit down frequently if needed. Wayfinders will be asked to carry a tote bag full of Program Guides, which may weigh up to 15 lbs.
