Orange Tree Clean Up at the Huntington Library (Not a Harvest!)

We are working to fight hunger and food waste in Southern California, and we'd love to have you join us.

Why: Come help us improve the health of the Valencia orange trees at the Huntington Gardens! We likely won't be donating any of the oranges to our hunger relief organization partners, as the fruit is old and not good to eat. However, removing older fruit from the trees will preserve energy for next year's crop. Not only will this keep the trees looking nice, but it will also promote tastier and more prolific oranges in future years! We will be harvesting fruit from the trees with our picker poles, and dropping the fruit to the ground.

Who: Food Forward fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people experiencing food insecurity, and inspiring others to do the same.

What's Expected:

Join the Volunteer Harvest Team to help us pick as much fruit as possible from trees, and then pack it into boxes to be donated.

Volunteers should be comfortable picking and carrying boxes of fruit that may weigh up to 20 pounds.

Volunteers don't need to worry about bringing equipment or transporting the fruit.

This opportunity is open to volunteers 5 years old and older, though children under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
