Are you passionate about equipping young women with the skills they need to thrive in adulthood? Machiah’s House is seeking a dedicated and skilled volunteer Life Skills Program Coordinator to lead workshops and trainings for young women who have aged out of foster care. Help us empower these women by teaching them practical skills that will build their confidence and independence. About Machiah’s House: Machiah’s House is a nonprofit organization that provides safe transitional housing, life skills training, and access to community resources for young women aging out of foster care. Our mission is to prepare these women for successful adulthood by equipping them with the essential tools they need to navigate life’s challenges and achieve independence. Volunteer Role: Life Skills Program TrainerJob Description:-Workshop Facilitation: Lead engaging, hands-on workshops that cover essential life skills such as budgeting, time management, job readiness, personal hygiene, healthy relationships, self-care, and more. Tailor each session to meet the specific needs of the participants and ensure that they leave each workshop with valuable, practical knowledge. -Curriculum Delivery: Follow an established curriculum or develop new modules to deliver life skills training that covers a wide range of topics. Incorporate real-life scenarios, interactive activities, and discussions that encourage critical thinking and self-reflection among participants. -Personal Development Training: Provide guidance on topics like self-esteem, goal-setting, decision-making, and coping with life transitions. Help young women build the confidence they need to overcome obstacles and make positive choices for their futures. -One-on-One Support: Offer individual coaching and mentoring to participants who need extra support. Help them apply the skills learned in workshops to their personal lives, providing feedback and encouragement along the way. -Assessment & Feedback: Evaluate participants' understanding of the material through assessments, quizzes, or group discussions. Gather feedback from participants to improve the program and ensure it meets their needs. -Collaboration with Other Volunteers: Work closely with other volunteers, mentors, and staff to ensure a holistic approach to life skills training. Share resources, ideas, and strategies to provide the best possible support for each participant. -Tailored Training Plans: Develop personalized life skills training plans based on the individual needs of the young women in the program. Adjust the curriculum to accommodate diverse learning styles and cultural backgrounds. -Resource Development: Assist in creating and compiling training materials, handouts, and worksheets for participants to use during and after the workshops. Ensure materials are user-friendly and practical for the young women to apply in their daily lives. -Group Activities & Engagement: Create fun, interactive group activities that encourage teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving. Facilitate group discussions that allow participants to share their experiences, learn from each other, and build a supportive community. -Life Skills Application: Encourage participants to practice the skills they’ve learned in their day-to-day lives. Set weekly or monthly challenges, such as creating a budget, organizing their schedule, or preparing for a job interview, to reinforce their learning. -Progress Tracking: Help track the progress of participants over time, noting improvements in their understanding of life skills and their ability to apply them. Share success stories and growth with the organization to showcase the impact of the program. -Guest Speakers & Special Events: Invite guest speakers or experts to present on specialized topics such as financial planning, career development, or mental health. Organize special events, such as mock interviews or career days, to further enhance the program. Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in teaching, training, or coaching (especially in life skills or personal development)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to connect with and inspire young women from diverse backgrounds
- Passion for helping at-risk youth and knowledge of the foster care system is a plus
- Creative and engaging teaching methods
- Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to working with vulnerable populations
- Organizational skills and the ability to create structured lesson plans
- Flexibility to adapt to the individual needs and learning styles of participants
