Join us for the 2024 State Fall Games! This is one of the largest competitions of the year where athletes from across the state come to compete in swimming and bocce! The event will take place at Skyline High School in Mesa, Arizona and has lots of volunteer opportunities that will ensure the event is a success!

11 Shifts

  • Thu Oct 10, 2024 - 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Volunteers will assist SOAZ staff with set-up.
  • Fri Oct 11, 2024 - 10:00 AM to 01:30 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Lunch distribution - volunteers will pass out lunch to the participating athletes.
  • Fri Oct 11, 2024 - 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Runners - volunteers will assist by communicating to staff which athletes are participating in each heat, and letting staff know the placements
  • Fri Oct 11, 2024 - 11:30 AM to 04:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    General Support - volunteers will go where help is most needed.
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 06:45 AM to 12:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    General Support - volunteers will go where help is most needed.
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 07:00 AM to 12:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Runners - volunteers will assist by communicating to staff which athletes are participating in each heat and placement of athletes.
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Timers - volunteers will start and end each event on the scheduled time.
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 08:00 AM to 01:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Bocce support - cheer on the athletes, keep score, and help athletes follow the rules of the game.
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Timers - will start and end each event on time and communicate delays to staff
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    Staging- volunteers will assist as athletes check-in for their events, help keep them organized and ready for their event.
  • Sat Oct 12, 2024 - 11:30 AM to 04:00 PM MST - Spots available: 10+
    General Support - volunteers will go where help is most needed.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Description

Special Olympics Arizona’s (SOAZ) goal is to empower the over 180,000 Arizonans with intellectual disabilities to be healthy, productive, and respected members of society through SOAZ’s year-round sports training, competitions, and support programs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 8
  • Volunteers must be 14 or older to volunteer on their own. Those 8-13 years of age can register to volunteer but must have an adult(21+) volunteering with them (one adult for every 4 youth max). Under 8 years old are welcome to cheer on athletes
