Mission Statement
Hand in Hand Family Mentorship's goal is to build bridges of hope through friendship and mentorship.
Description
The Department of Health and Welfare, Boise City Lights, and Family Advocates send referrals to Hand in Hand of individuals and parents who could use support and friendship as they learn how to create healthy families.
These are good people, but struggle due to little tradition of family stability in their own upbringing. We receive notice of these individuals and pair them with a friend and mentor. Mentors do not do for these individuals what they can and should do for themselves, instead, our aim is to be a source of encouragement and guidance; creating a supportive arm as they learn to recognize consequences for choices and discover a better way to navigate life.
There is no specified program; the measure of success comes as people feel that someone cares and is watching out for them.
Our mentors keep in touch via text, email, phone, or an occasional visit. They connect them to more friendships within their immediate community and become a sounding board as they make choices and try to get their lives in a better place.
These healthy, one-on-one connections are leading people to want to fix their own lives, rather than someone telling them what needs to be fixed. It's the power of love, compassion, friendship, and connection.
Becoming a mentor means becoming a friend. The value of human connection for hope and healing cannot be overstated.
