It's time again for the annual Sam Lapidus Montclair Run (SLMR), a Thanksgiving morning 5k, 10k, and 1-Mile Fun Run that celebrates the life of Sam Lapidus while raising funds for the Levite Jewish Community Center and the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.

Come help us "run" this treasured Birmingham tradition! Join us the day before (Wednesday, Nov. 27) to help distribute packets to registrants, or race day morning (Thursday, Nov. 28) to help with check in, t-shirt distribution, water stations, and more.

There are several volunteer opportunities available, even for those who plan to participate in the race. Contact Emma Herr at emmah@bhamjcc.org with any questions.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Levite Jewish Community Center is to enhance Jewish identity by providing programs and activities that promote cultural enrichment, cultivate educational development and provide for the well-being of its members.

Description

The Levite Jewish Community Center prides itself on being a welcoming facility to people of all faiths, ages, genders, sexual identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a family-oriented recreational and educational facility that is open to the entire community. The LJCC is home to a large fitness center that includes free weights, Cybex machines, and cardio equipment. We also offer dozens of group fitness classes weekly, personal training, a five-mile hiking and biking trail, and large indoor and outdoor pools plus a baby pool.

Alongside our fitness offerings, we also boast a respected early childhood program, summer and year-round camps, and a wide range of other activities and programs. We hosts several annual events open to the public, the most well known being the Jewish Food & Culture Fest in the spring, which draws crowds of up to 3,000 people each year, and Birmingham's favorite Thanksgiving morning tradition, the Sam Lapidus Montclair Run, each fall.

With "Community" being our middle name, we take pride in being an active partner of both the Birmingham Jewish and broader Birmingham communities. We make it our responsibility to serve and enhance the community through our mission every day.
