Mission Statement

Since 1971, Helpline Youth Counseling (HYC) has worked to fulfill its mission of serving youth and families by promoting the development of strong individuals and families in the greater Los Angeles area. Our agency is dedicated to the prevention and alleviation of child abuse and neglect, family and domestic violence, gang involvement, juvenile delinquency and substance abuse. Helpline Youth Counseling has consistently employed a strength-based service strategy to assist clients in recognizing and building upon their personal assets while moving toward realizing their life goals despite the challenges they face. HYC prioritizes prevention and early intervention programs and has always taken a whole family approach to build individual and community strengths and help create more promising futures for our clients and the communities they are a part of.

Description

Helpline Youth Counseling programs are designed to reinforce protective factors within families, empower clients to change their lives in sustainable ways, and increase overall community health and well-being. Our comprehensive services include individual, group and family counseling; case management services; substance dependency programs; domestic violence services; a therapeutic day treatment school; gang prevention and intervention programs; life skills classes; parenting education; health insurance outreach and enrollment assistance; economic development and community organizing; financial counseling; youth leadership development; and housing assistance for homeless individuals and families. HYC programs also help clients avert serious life crises and the need for emergency interventions, such as child removal, from public agencies such as the Department of Child and Family Services and the Department of Probation. HYC helps clients build the necessary tools and skills that are needed to maintain family stability and increase community prosperity.
