Through the application of art and education we strive for political, social, economic and legal change. Description

Join Black in Mayberry and Make a Difference!

Black in Mayberry’s mission is to combat racism through the arts by amplifying Black voices and fostering understanding in our communities. Based in the South Bay of LA, we use creativity to challenge systemic racism, inspire action, and connect people through storytelling.

Our Programs:

  • Project Black Lens: A 6-week photography course that empowers young Black photographers to tell authentic stories and drive social change.
  • Juneteenth Celebrations: Citywide events featuring art exhibitions, children’s story-time, and more, bringing people together to celebrate freedom and African American history.
  • Still Waters Art Therapy: Provides culturally responsive art therapy for marginalized youth, offering a space for expression and healing.
  • Butterfly Advocacy Activation: Encourages small but impactful actions against racism, shared through art and online for United Against Hate Week 2024.

Our Achievements:
In 2023, we built a strong team, hosted large-scale events, and held our 'Art Against Racism' exhibition. Our Juneteenth celebration exceeded expectations, drawing three times more attendees than anticipated. Through TEDx Manhattan Beach, we launched the Butterfly Advocacy program, empowering people to create change through small, meaningful actions.
