The Geraldine E. King Women's Resource Center invites individuals and mid-sized community groups to volunteer at our facility by assisting with meal prep and food service for up to 250 women who are experiencing homelessness. As a meal service volunteer, you are tasked with providing positive community engagement and helping us meet nutritional needs by serving meals to our female clients. Our kitchen facility can accommodate groups of up to 10 individuals, ages 16 and up. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner shifts are available and each shift is approximately 2 hours long.

Meal Service Guidelines

  • Meal volunteers must be at least 16 to be in the kitchen.
  • Our kitchen accommodates groups of 5 for breakfast; groups of 10 for lunch; and groups of 7 for dinner. If you’re volunteering with a company, church group, etc., please include a Group Name on the signup form.
  • Photos with clients are not permitted at any time. Group photos for social media, etc,. are permitted if clients are not depicted. News media is generally not allowed to report on volunteer shifts.
  • Wear safe and appropriate kitchen attire, including closed-toe rubber-soled shoes.
  • Cancellations must occur at least 48 hours in advance.

Meal Service Tasks

  • Please arrive on time to ensure we can serve meals on time
  • Meal Prep includes any tasks related to preparing the meal for service.
  • Serving is meal-line style, with volunteers placing entrĂ©es on clients’ plates.
  • Cleanup includes sanitizing countertops and prep stations, emptying garbage and recycling, sweeping, and mopping.
  • Organizational tasks in the kitchen and client pantry include unloading, unboxing, and replenishing shelves.
