Do you want to use your skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of isolated older adults?

Friendly Voices creates a vital human connection for socially isolated, low-income older adults through weekly phone conversations with our trained volunteers. We are a small non-profit performing high-impact work, and are poised to expand our impact throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Last year our program grew 62% and currently we provide over 6,000 phone conversations per year. More about us at www.friendlyvoices.org.

As a volunteer Board Member, you will help guide the strategic direction of Friendly Voices to ensure our mission is effectively fulfilled. You will help drive our small growing nonprofit toward greater expansion, oversee fiscal and program policy (governance), and network within the community to create partnerships and connections. You will also be responsible for spearheading specific initiatives as needed. The expected time commitment is approximately 10-15 hrs./month (mostly remote).

Qualifications:

  • Passion for reducing loneliness among older adults and a commitment to dedicating time and effort to the organization’s mission.
  • Prior board roles with other small to midsize nonprofit organizations (desired)
  • Experience in at least ONE of these areas: senior services, fundraising (grant writing, individual fundraising, and/or corporate fundraising), legal or HR, technology implementation, strategic business management
  • Existing connections and networks within Bay Area senior services, including geriatric medicine, assisted living, senior care agencies, community agencies, county departments, and/or city services that support older adults.
  • Strong leadership skills including a collaborative approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally.
  • Organized, flexible and responsive - able to pivot when necessary and manage multiple and/or overlapping projects.
  • Living in the Bay Area as that is our primary service region. Although we are fully remote by design, you will be required to occasionally meet for in-person board meetings on the Peninsula (typically monthly) or community outreach/events, as needed.

Job responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the other members of the Board of Directors, contributing to our governance and outreach efforts.
  • Fundraising & development.
  • Additional projects aligned with your experience and interests.
  • Support Executive Director with fundraising, marketing, budgeting and networking as needed.

How to apply:

Please send a cover letter, your resume, and your LinkedIn URL to jointheboard@friendlyvoices.org by October 20, 2024. Tell us succinctly about yourself, outlining your interest in Friendly Voices and your relevant experience in this area. Please describe what you bring to our growing organization, highlighting specific relevant skills and experience.

Friendly Voices is committed to diversity and encourages qualified individuals from all backgrounds to apply. We look forward to welcoming new board members who share our dedication to reducing loneliness and fostering connection in our older adult community.
