A six week program (twice a week) for middle school students, boosting their confidence, awareness and motivation to pursue life science careers by supporting them through the use of contemporary molecular biology methods in an authentic lab setting. They will complete a moss DNA barcoding project, learn about life science careers, create a presentation about the species they identify, and learn how moss fit into PNW ecosystems. The program has been developed by a small and friendly team of professional molecular biology researchers volunteering their time at SoundBio Lab: Maddy Scott, Madelyn Shelby, Sunehri Nog and Orlando de Lange. We are looking for an assistant instructor to help set up activities and assist students with hands-on lab protocols. While not required, a candidate interested in eventually taking on primary instructor duties in future cohorts is desired. Further Information: https://www.sound.bio/life-science-explorers
