Position Overview: The Project Consultant will serve a pivotal role in leading and mentoring administrative staff and overseeing the delivery of dynamic medical, public health and community programs, including support for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and at-risk youth.

The Project Consultant will work in collaboration with Lalmba’s Ethiopia National Leadership Team (E-NLT), which is led by several key local staff. In line with Lalmba’s ongoing work to empower Ethiopian staff to lead and manage programs, the Project Consultant will provide critical support to leadership staff in various areas of team leadership, capacity building and public health programming.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Support local staff to evaluate and elevate project standards for professionalism and accountability, while maintaining highest value on stewardship and care.
  • Work with Directors to Supervise supervisor and mentor administrative staff and ensure management skills are appropriate, transparent and up to date
  • Assist with ongoing assessment of staff training needs and professional development opportunities for individual staff and teams.
  • Support staff learning goals and skills training via mentoring with local staff and presentations by staff, Lalmba US leadership, other volunteers and external partners.
  • Work with National Country Director to evaluate administrative and non-medical staff and provide regular performance feedback to staff.

Capacity Building

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement programs, protocols, and procedures that enhance quality of services and care.
  • Participate in the strategic planning process in alignment with Lalmba’s mission and goals.
  • Support the growth and development of Lalmba projects by helping to evaluate long-term goals, create incremental objectives and set priorities.
  • Partner with Lalmba leadership to increase the international volunteer capacity, including recruitment, training and support for in-country volunteers.
  • Ensure reporting, accounting, inventory and asset maintenance and community programs operate to foster highest standards of care.

Public Health Programming

  • Facilitate planning with the Reaching Children at Risk (RCAR) and Public Health (PH) teams and other staff to identify healthcare needs and develop targeted high impact educational programs.
  • Collaborate with staff to foster partnerships with community leaders, ministry of health, and local organizations to enhance clinical and PH services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willing to commit to a minimum of 12 months in Project Consultant position.
  • Combination of academic training and/or experience related to public health, medical care, international development, project management, leadership training or other relevant fields.
  • Intercultural leadership experience and/or international aid training.
  • Ability to succeed in unfamiliar environments and, in some cases, with limited resources.
  • Exceptional communication skills for work with local and international staff and partners.
  • Deep understanding of the unique health and community challenges faced by communities in rural Africa.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs and responsible internet use.
  • High proficiency with spoken and written English. Experience with local language(s) is not required but an interest in developing basic language skills is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or as member of team with limited supervision.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Lalmba Association.

Benefits:

This is an onsite, volunteer position based in Chiri and/or Agara Bushi, Ethiopia, within the Keffa zone. Work hours are expected to be similar to Ethiopian staff.
