Organization Background: Rock Recovery (Rock) is a mental health nonprofit in the Washington, DC area that helps make eating disorder therapy and support available to all who need it. Founded in 2009, Rock’s programs have provided treatment and support to more than 400 clients and 20,000 community members. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join the team as we endeavor toward a new season of growth and expansion in the DC metro area and nationwide.
Rock’s Digital Marketing & Social Media Volunteer is responsible for working alongside the marketing team to develop a strong digital marketing strategy for the organization, and growing and maintaining Rock’s online presence through various marketing platforms. This person will report directly to the Development & Communications Manager.
The role will include the following responsibilities:
Digital marketing strategy: The role will enhance Rock’s existing digital marketing plan which will require ongoing adjustment as we gather data on what works, including:
- Measure and report performance of all digital marketing, including SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media campaigns
- Support strategy around direct to consumer marketing as well as marketing to primary referral sources within the community (clinicians, hospitals, treatment centers, schools, etc.) to increase client intake (Goal: 20% increase by June 2025)
- Research and implement new and creative growth strategies and activities
- Research and perform outreach to promote Rock and its services on various mental health and wellness media platforms (print, broadcast, op-ed)
Rock website & maintaining social media presence across all digital channels: Sharing content responsibilities across the Rock team, the Digital Marketing volunteer will coordinate messaging to increase overall organizational exposure and brand awareness, as well as program enrollment and event attendance:
- Coordinate content initiatives to ensure steady evolution of the website aiming to attract a stream of diverse traffic (includes website, blogs, email marketing, Google Ads, etc.)
- Design engaging graphics and reels for social media and brainstorm new strategies for engagement and growth
- Brainstorm new ways to boost social media engagement and lead people to Rock’s services and sites
- Analyze current website engagement rates (Google and Squarespace Analytics) and advise on strategy to improve search engine optimization and traffic
- Offer new strategies for optimizing Google Ads to drive conversions and website traffic

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Experience in digital marketing: An understanding of the basics of online marketing and social media platforms is helpful but most important is a desire to learn and grow
- Google Initiatives for nonprofits: Some experience with tools like Google Ads and Analytics
- Graphic design: Some experience with editing images and content creation using Canva
- Personal organization: Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects
- Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Self Starter: The ability to make decisions, produce outcomes and complete tasks with limited direction or supervision.
- Technical Acumen: The ability to figure out online marketing tools

Required education and experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, as this is a Graduate-level opportunity. Undergraduate Seniors can apply and may be considered based on experience.
Hours/Timeline: Minimum one semester commitment with 15 - 20 hours per week expected. This is a hybrid role, with one day in the office (Arlington, VA).
