Position Description: Develop connections with the older adult population and make a tangible impact in the community! AgeSpan is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with the operation of our food pantry at Chelmsford Housing Authority. Volunteers will play a key role in ensuring the smooth delivery and distribution of food to community members. This role involves physical tasks, interaction with residents, and helping to maintain an organized and efficient food pantry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Pantry Delivery Support: Help unload boxes (approximately 25 lbs) from the delivery truck and organize and sort the food.
- Distribution Assistance: Wheel carts across the campus, including down a small incline, and set out boxes of food in community rooms.
- Food Inspection: Check food items for expiration dates, sort, and break down boxes as needed.
- Resident Interaction: Engage with residents attending the program, including older adults and younger adults with disabilities, in a supportive and friendly manner.
- Cleanup: Assist with post-pantry cleanup, including disposing of waste and recycling boxes in community dumpsters.
Requirements:
- Complete and pass a CORI background check.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds or more.
- Comfort working with older adults and younger individuals with disabilities.
- Enjoyment of community service and a commitment to giving back.
- Positive attitude and flexibility.
- Reliable transportation is required to ensure punctuality and attendance.

· Location: Chelmsford Housing Authority (20 Sheila Ave, Chelmsford, MA 01824)
· Hours: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, every other Friday

Description
AgeSpan, formerly Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation established in 1974 by a group of citizens throughout the Merrimack Valley who were committed to developing programs and services for elders. The Agency is governed by a policymaking Board that oversees the management of the Agency. Members are a blend of representatives from Councils on Aging and At Large members from communities in our area with 51% of members over the age of 60.
AgeSpan has become a leader in creating services, programs and opportunities for older adults. As an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP), the Agency receives state funding to provide services designed to maintain an elder's independence at home and in the community. AgeSpan is also the designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA), receiving federal funding to fund community services and provide information and referral to elders, families and the community. The Agency also receives funding from a variety of grants, foundations and fund raising efforts and matching funds from local communities.
