JOIN United Way of Tarrant County at Opal's Farm!

Opal's Farm is a 5-acre urban farm located off the banks of the Trinity River, east of downtown Fort Worth in the Riverside Community.

Named after legendary community activist, Opal Lee, she had a dream of an urban farm providing farm-fresh, nutritious food for residents of the city. The farm addresses local food deserts and revitalizes the health of local neighborhoods.

Volunteers Needed: 10


Volunteers are needed to help with weeding, tilling, spreading compost and mulch, harvesting, setting up plant beds and more. The farm provides all the tools and gloves needed and provides volunteers access to a water cooler. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves, snacks/drinks, or refillable water bottle. A portable restroom is available onsite.

Children are welcome to participate with a parent or guardian.

In the event of inclement weather, volunteers will be notified by email and/or text message.

For more than 100 years United Way of Tarrant County has worked to improve the lives of those in the communities we serve. As a nonprofit leader, we unite companies, organizations, schools, religious institutions and city/state and local governments to address the most crucial causes to build a stronger Tarrant County. We also serve as the regional grantee for Tarrant County’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

  • Community Health - ensuring a community where everyone can be safe and healthy, with a particular focus on underserved neighborhoods, women, children, older adults and those with disabilities
