**Purpose:**

This event is dedicated to raising awareness for rare diseases in childhood. Proceeds will benefit the ongoing initiatives of Melanin Children Matter Inc. and contribute to further advocacy efforts for rare diseases in marginalized communities.

- Proclamation Presentation: Display the proclamation you received from Mayor Tom Watson, marking Rare Disease Day.

- Live Entertainment: String quartet or jazz ensemble to set an elegant tone.

- Silent Auction: Featuring local businesses, art, and experiences, with proceeds going toward advocacy and support for families affected by rare diseases.

- Dinner & Dessert: A three-course meal with black and white-themed dessert options, symbolizing the theme of the evening.

Mission Statement: Melanin Children Matter Inc. is dedicated to advocating for the health, dignity, and inclusion of all children with a particular focus on children color affected by rare diseases and autism. We aim to eliminate healthcare disparities, push for policy changes, and provide critical resources to empower families. Through education, community support, and advocacy, we work toward a world where every child, regardless of race or diagnosis, has the opportunity to thrive.

Description

**Melanin Children Matter Inc.** was founded to address healthcare disparities affecting BIPOC children with rare diseases and autism. The organization aims to promote equitable healthcare, advocate for policies like including genetic disorders (e.g., SPTLC2 mutation) in newborn screenings, and empower families with resources and support.

**Achievements** include engaging policymakers in policy discussions, building a strong community network, and launching educational workshops on healthcare rights.

**Programs** include the **Autism Access Initiative (AAI)**, the **Rare Disease Advocacy Network**, and **Parental Empowerment Workshops**. The organization also runs a **Community Outreach and Resource Hub** and organizes **Annual Awareness Campaigns** to raise visibility of BIPOC children’s challenges in healthcare, fostering dialogue among families, healthcare providers, and policymakers.
