Kyani Nyanza Primary School, in Uganda, has been operating for 22 years without proper classrooms or toilets. Students are currently learning and teachers are working under trees, with everyone using the trees as makeshift toilets.
The lack of classrooms is exposing students to harsh weather, including intense heat and heavy rains, which is leading to frequent disruptions in their education. These conditions are contributing to higher dropout rates, early marriages, discouragement, and health issues like flu and pneumonia.
Without toilets, the community's land and water sources are becoming contaminated with disease-causing germs, leading to intestinal worms, frequent illnesses, absenteeism, and even school closures.
With your support, we will build 18 much-needed classrooms at $10,000 each and 22 toilets at $2,000 each, creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for students. This will reduce school disruptions, improving health, and enhancing overall performance and attendance.
The building plan, currently being designed by EWB-Seattle, will be completed soon.
