The Friendship Ball is a free and fun opportunity for Best Buddies middle school through college chapter participants, as well as adult Citizens program members, to enjoy a prom/after-prom style event. It gives our buddy pairs (individuals with and without disabilities) the opportunity to dress up and feel special! The Friendship Ball involves dancing, games, prizes, and food.

Volunteer opportunities include venue set-up prior to event from 3-5 PM (tables, chairs, decorations, game and prize stations, and food/drink stations). Event volunteer roles include operating a game station, prize table, sensory station, and food/drink area. Time commitment for event volunteers is 5:30-8:30 PM. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for both shifts!

Mission Statement

We are the world's largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Buddies in Iowa provides one-to-one friendship, integrated employment, and leadership programs for individuals with and without IDD.

Description

Best Buddies in Iowa (BBIA) has 40+ school based chapters across the state and an adult program, Citizens, which fosters meaningful one-to-one friendships between peers with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We currently have 1,500 individuals participating in our friendship programs. Additionally, we provide leadership development trainings for student leaders and volunteers seeking to become ambassadors for inclusion in their community. In the Fall of 2022, BBIA expanded services to include job development and employment coaching services for people with IDD.
