Minimum Qualifications:

· Age 18 years or older

· Reliable and punctual

· Strict attention to detail

· Able to sort alphabetically and numerically

· Able to push carts of 50+ lbs.

· Able to bend, lift, stretch, and handle books repeatedly

· Able to work independently on task and follow directions

Essential Position Functions: Bin & Tasket Sorters keep the library functioning by helping sort and organize materials from return bins and inter library taskets onto carts for Cart Sorters & Shelvers.

Key Responsibilities:

· Organizing books and other materials that have been returned on to their specific carts

· Ability to work efficiently and independently from written directions.

Training: 1-hour orientation session covering library volunteer expectations, including tour of facility, sign-in and badging process, and introduction to staff. Followed by an assessment of alphabetization & numerical ordering, then a 1-hour training on shelving with circulation staff. Returning volunteers (out of service longer than 3 months) will require a brief half hour retraining session with supervisor.

Time Commitment : 2 hours per week minimum; average of 8 total hours per month; a minimum commitment of six months is requested.

Volunteer and Community Benefits: Bin & Tasket volunteers play a vital role in ensuring our collection is accessible to patrons. In addition to facilitating the movement of materials, but also inspect and remove damaged items from circulation for repair. By volunteering in this role, they gain valuable hands-on experience in library operations and with the Dewey Decimal System, while earning service credit and recommendations after successfully completing a minimum of six months of service. Their contributions are highly valued by both library staff and patrons alike.
