ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

In partnership since 2012, Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River and JSI Research and Training Institute collaborate to collect valuable data on who is wearing a life jacket while fishing, swimming, boating or floating in the river. This data contributes to the NPS UPDE S&RR Water Safety Campaign, which works to provide a safe and positive experience for all recreationalists enjoying the Upper Delaware river.

The Wear It Watcher Volunteer reports to the Zane Grey Museum located in Lackawaxen, PA.

Duties include:

  • Staffing designated lifejacket data collection locations along the Upper Delaware river.
  • Recording lifejacket survey data (observing how many people wearing/ not wearing life jackets).
  • Informing river users of life jacket laws and where to find NPS loaner life jackets.
  • Organizing and relaying daily data to volunteer coordinator.

Volunteer will receive all materials necessary for life jacket observation, including a folding chair, and can sit for duration of surveying if desired.

Bring a friend! Recording life jacket data is easier with two individuals, but not required.
