MDA’s Mentorship program is looking for experienced professionals from a variety of fields to volunteer as mentors for youth with neuromuscular disease. Working with MDA staff, volunteer mentors will lead a group of 4-6 youth through a real-world project related to their field while also sharing their higher education and career experiences. Volunteer mentors play a key role in helping participants discover their own strengths and interests.

STEM Explorations January 15 - February 12

For youth and young adults ages 16-21 who have a strong interest in STEM careers (science technology, engineering and math), this session provides a more focused experience. Participants will work with mentors from a specific field to complete an interactive project while also diving deeper into the ins and outs of that particular field.

· At least 22 years of age and established in a field such as business, technology, engineering, fashion, marketing, finance, law, communications, scientific research, etc.

· Desire to mentor and encourage youth to discover their skills and interests.

· Ability to meet with MDA Staff for two or three 45-minute planning sessions in November/Early December 2024.

· Ability to commit to two 90-minute live video sessions each week as well as participate in discussion boards throughout the 5-week session in early 2025. (Video sessions will be held on the same nights each week and will be based on availability of the majority.)

· Experience working with people with a neuromuscular disease. Professionals living with a neuromuscular disease are especially encouraged to apply.

What You Will Do:

· Identify 1-2 projects relevant to your industry that fit within the scope and time frame of the program.

* Work with a co-mentor to lead a group of 4-6 youth through one of those projects.

* Collaborate with MDA staff to encourage participant engagement and accessibility of projects.

Mentor participants and potentially provide letters of recommendation
